Jane Margaret Brookman was born in 1867 in London – the daughter of John Brookman, an Admiralty messenger, and Bridget Burns.
Her father died in 1871 and Jane emigrated to Otago in 1874 on the Asia accompanying the Rowlandson family who settled in Dunedin.
When Jane signed the suffrage petition she was living at Waitahuna working as a saleswoman.
She moved back to Dunedin a few years later and she married Arthur John Lowe, a railway guard, on 3 October 1900 at Leith St, Dunedin.
They had one daughter and they lived at Putaruru and Grey Lynn.
Arthur died in 1959 and Jane died on 25 January 1952, they were both cremated and their ashes interred in the Purewa Cemetery, Auckland.
