Jane Mitchell was born about 1855.
She married James Brown on 13 June 1881 in Dunedin and they had, at least, four children.
When Jane signed the suffrage petition the family were living on their farm near Owaka at Tahatika.
Jane died at their home on 15 June 1917 and James died at Seacliff in 1930, they are buried in the Owaka Cemetery.
