Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jean/Jane Gordon was born about 1843 in Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland – the daughter of Charles Gordon, a mason, and Susan Carnegie.

She married Andrew Clark, a labourer, on 30 November 1866 in Arbroath and they had five children.

Jane and Andrew, accompanied by their two youngest children, (See 80 Bella Clark) emigrated to Otago in 1883 on the Nelson and they settled in Milton where Jane signed the suffrage petition. Where and when Andrew died is unknown.

Jane moved to Christchurch in the 1910s and she died at her daughter’s home in Riccarton on 12 December 1924, she is buried in the Sydenham Cemetery.
