Jane Robson was born about 1862 in Northumberland, England.
She emigrated to New Zealand and she married William Cross, an engine driver, in 1882.
They had eight children, one who died in infancy, and the family were living in Orepuki in Southland when Jane signed the suffrage petition.
They later lived in Dunedin and Lawrence before moving to Oamaru in the early 1900s.
William died in 1924 and Jane died on 18 July 1944, they are buried together in the Oamaru Cemetery.
