Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jane Munro Cameron was born on 24 April 1837 in Edinburgh, Scotland – the daughter of Hector Cameron, a butler, and Janet Paterson.

She married William Cunningham on 13 July 1860 and shortly after they emigrated to Otago on the Silistria.

They settled at Green Island Bush, south of Dunedin, where they had nine children.

They cleared land to develop a farm before they moved to Caversham in the mid 1870s where William worked as a builder.

When Jane signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Main South Road, Caversham.

In 1920 they celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary with a celebration at the Baptist Sunday School Hall in Caversham.

Jane died at her home on 21 March 1922 and William died in 1924 – they are buried together in the Green Island Cemetery.
