Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jane Grey was born in 1857 in New Zealand – the eldest daughter of William Grey and Jane Brotherton. (See 156 Jane Grey)

She married ironmonger Walter Gow on 23 April 1879 at her parents’ home in Roslyn – her sister Eliza married the same day.

They had seven children and when Jane signed the suffrage petition they were living in Belleknowes, Dunedin.

Walter died in 1930 and Jane died at her home on 5 November 1948 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
