Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Jane Hann/Hand was born about 1810 in Scotland.
She married Edward McLeese/Lees, a farm labourer, on 2 March 1838 in Stoneykirk, Wigtownshire and they had 10 children, at least two who died in infancy.
Edward died in 1861 and some-time after this Jane emigrated to New Zealand with some of her children.
When she signed the suffrage petition Jane gave her address as Cargill Rd, South Dunedin where her son and his family (See 66 Mrs Lees jnr) lived although she is shown on the electoral roll as living in Russell St.
She died at her daughter’s home in Oamaru on 30 December 1899 and is buried in the Oamaru Cemetery.
