Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Jane Kidd was born about 1830 in Scotland.
She married Francis Lauder, a maltman, on 25 November 1853 in Edinburgh and they had six children, one who died in infancy.
One of her daughters (See 117 Helen Brown) emigrated to New Zealand in the late 1870s and over the next ten years Francis died and two of her adult children also died.
In 1890 Jane emigrated to Otago on the Langstone accompanied by her daughter Jane (See 117 Jane Adam) and her family.
When Jane signed the suffrage petition she used her maiden name, in the Scottish tradition, and she was living in Belleknowes.
Jane died at her daughter’s home on 5 March 1916 – she is buried with her daughter Jane in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
