Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Jane Craig was born about 1853 in England. She married Joseph Milburn, a coal miner, in Weardale, Durham, England in 1873.
They had three children before they emigrated to Otago in 1879 on the Margaret Galbriath.
A further seven children were born after their arrival, four of their children died in infancy or early childhood.
They also appear to have looked after the two illegitimate daughers of Joseph’s sister Phillis (See 453 Phillis Milburn) for some time.
The family lived, at first, in Fairfield before moving to Cutten St, South Dunedin where Jane signed the suffrage petition.
Joseph died at their home in Baker St, Caversham in 1916 and Jane died on 10 June 1934 at her daughter’s home.
They are buried together in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
