Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jane Morris was born about 1840 in Monmouthshire, Wales.

She married Robert Morgan, a miner, in 1863 and the emigrated to Victoria, Australia in 1866 on the Great Britain

They had three children in Victoria before they sailed for Otago about 1879.

They lived at Blue Spur where Robert worked as an underground mine manager and where their last child was born.

In 1889 Jane and the children moved to Dunedin and Robert appears to have been working at Bullendale, near Queenstown.

When Jane signed the suffrage petition they were living in Dundas Street.

In 1897 the family moved to Waihi where Jane died on 11 January 1901 and Robert died in 1907 – they are buried together in the Waihi Cemetery.
