Jane Treloar was born in 1848 in Wendron, Cornwall – the daughter of James Treloar, a copper miner, and Mary Francis.
She married miner, John Moyle at Wendron on 8 July 1871 and they had three daughters, one who died in infancy, before they emigrated to Nelson in 1877 on the Waitara.
They had a further four children, one of these children also died in infancy.
When Jane signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Crushington, near Reefton.
John was injured when working at the Keep-it–Dark mine and was unable to work for many years.
Their youngest son died on typhoid fever in 1903 and John died the following year.
Jane died at Reefton on 1 April 1922 – they are buried in the Reefton Cemetery.
Jane’s obituary said she was 'noted for her charitable nature and many friends will regret her death.'
