Jane/Jeannie Nickle/Nichol was born in 1868 in New Zealand – the daughter of Hugh Nickle, a police sergeant, and Margaret Cameron.

Her family lived in Dunedin and Riverton before moving to Queenstown in 1891 where Jane signed the suffrage petition.

She married Alfred Edward Benjamin Aldridge, a printer, in 1893 - they had two children and lived in Gore.

Alfred died at their home in Gore in 1899, he is buried in the Queenstown Cemetery.

Jane re-married in 1901 to Alfred Mayne, a tailor and widower with two children and they had a further two children.

The family lived in Queenstown before moving to Dunedin where Alfred died in 1947 and Jane died on 11 December 1950.

They are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
