Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jane Ross Thomson was born in Ballantrae, Ayrshire, Scotland about 1853 – the daughter of James Dunlop Thomson, a fisherman, and Elizabeth Wilson McWhirter. (See 30 Mrs J Thomson) She emigrated to Otago in 1875 on the Oamaru with her family and they settled in Dunedin.

Jane married Louis/Ludwig Schulenburg, a labourer from Germany, in 1880 and they had five children.

When she signed the suffrage petition they were living in Braemar St, South Dunedin.

Louis died in 1920 and Jane died on 20 October 1929, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
