Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley:
Jane McKenzie was born about 1850 in Inverness, Scotland.
She came to Otago about 1872 and, on 11 November 1878, at Knox Church, she married Donald Urquhart, a bridge inspector for the railway department.
They had five children and lived in Reid St, South Dunedin. In November 1896 Donald received a promotion to the Napier section of the railways. In April of the following year he had a fatal accident when a ballast engine collided with a trolley he was riding on.
The next month their 16 year old daughter Isabella died. Jane died the following year on 8 November, aged 48.
They are buried together in the Southern Cemetery, Dunedin.
