Jean/Jane Wilkie was born about 1845 in Rothesay, Bute, Scotland – the daughter of Allan Wilkie, a gardener, and Ann Blair.

She emigrated to Otago about 1870 where she married John Waterston, a hawker, in 1871.

They did not have any children but they did have an adopted daughter.

When Jane signed the suffrage petition they were living in Caversham.

John died at their home in 1918 and Jane died at her daughter’s home on 1 April 1920 –she is buried with John in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
