Janet was born about 1829 in Scotland.
She married Robert Boag around 1860 and they emigrated to New Zealand.
They had six children, one who died in infancy, and when Janet signed the suffrage petition they were farming in the Waikaka Valley, north of Gore.
Janet died at Gore on 1 July 1902 and Robert died in 1904 – they are buried together in the Gore Cemetery.
