Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Janet Forbes Lees was born on 26 October 1848 in Selkirk, Scotland - the daughter of Andrew Lees, a farmer, and Elizabeth Forbes.

She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1860 on the Pladda and they settled near the Catlins River in South Otago.

Janet married Frederick Bradfield, a farmer, on 15 April 1875 at Owake Flat. They had eight children and lived at Tahatika in the Owaka Valley.

Frederick died in 1916 and Janet later moved to Balclutha.

She died on 3 December 1929 and is buried with Frederick and their son in the Clinton Cemetery in South Otago.
