Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Janet/Jenet Thomson was born about 1850 in Berwichshire, Scotland – the daughter of Robert Thomson, a ploughman, and Jane Trotter.
She emigrated to Otago with her family in the late 1860s on the William Davie and they settled in South Otago.
Janet married William Chisholm Cameron, a farmer, on 30 November 1870 in the Milton Parish.
They had eight children and when Janet signed the suffrage petition the family were living at their farm 'The Woolshed' at Glenore.
They retired to Milton in the 1900s where William died in 1916 and Janet died on 21 April 1935.
They are buried in the Fairfax Cemetery, Milton.
