Janet Bowie Reid was born in 1862 in New Zealand – the daughter of Alexander Reid and Janet.
She married Joseph Cox, a miner and widower, on 28 December 1878 in the Hampden parish.
They had 11 children, one who died in infancy and they lived in Hampden in North Otago where Janet signed the suffrage petition.
They moved to Dunedin in 1899 where Janet died on 5 July 1910, she is buried in the Southern Cemetery.
Joseph appears to have moved to Australia in 1913 with some of the children, what happened to him is unclear.
