Janet Walker was born about 1837 in Scotland. 

She married, carpenter, John Dickison in Scotland in 1858 and they emigrated to New Zealand around 1860.

They had five children and settled in Dunedin – they were living in Mornington when Janet signed the suffrage petition. 

John died in 1909, and Janet died at her home on 19 July 1914 – they are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
