Janet Thomson was born about 1833 in Ayrshire, Scotland.
She married Charles Gibb, a shepherd, on 31 December 1858 in Monkton, Ayrshire and their only child Walter was born in 1872.
The family emigrated to Otago in 1875 on the City of Tanjore.
They 'went to work on the Cairn Station away in the back country from Clinton. They also lived at Muru Creek' and in the 1880s they moved to Clinton township where Janet signed the suffrage petition.
Charles died at their home in 1910, he is buried in the Clinton Cemetery.
In 1918 Janet sold her property and stock in Clinton and moved to Eltham in Taranaki to live near her son.
She died at her son’s home on 4 September 1920 and is buried in the Eltham Cemetery.
