Janet Harcus was born about 1859 in Papa Westray in the Orkney Islands.
She married John Rendall in 1878 and later that year they emigrated to Otago on the Canterbury.
They settled in Waikouaiti, north of Dunedin, where John worked as a contractor and they had five children, one who died in infancy.
Janet signed the suffrage petition in Waikouaiti.
John died at their home in 1914 and Janet died on August 1st 1919. They are buried in the family grave in the Waikouaiti Cemetery.
