Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.
Janet Syme Taylor was born about 1843 in Scotland.
She emigrated to New Zealand in the 1860’s and she married sailmaker Alexander Thompson in 1872 in Dunedin.
They had seven children and when Janet signed the suffrage petition the family were living in High Street.
Janet died at her home on 6 June 1913. At the next meeting at the Tabernacle of the Church of Christ there was a “feeling and fitting reference to “ her death, “who, for 40 years, had been an earnest active member of the Church of Christ. The late Mrs Thompson was well and kindly remembered for many years as a visiting sister and member of the Dorcas Society”.
Alexander died in 1925 – they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
