Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Margaret Jane/Jeanie Moore was born in 1870 in Milton, South Otago – the daughter of William Moore, a farmer, and Mary.

When Jeanie signed the suffrage petition she was living in Milton.

She married Michael Joseph Kirby, a butcher, on 6 February 1894 at her family home 'Kiness Farm' near Milton.

Jeanie and Michael had four children and in the late 1890s they moved to Hastings.

Michael died in 1908 while 'under choloroform' while being operated on for a badly broken leg – he is buried in the Hastings Cemetery.

Jeanie re-married in 1928 to Timothy Cullen, a retired baker. She died on 24 August 1944 and Timothy died in 1949 – they are buried together in the Hastings Cemetery.
