Mary Jane/Jeannie Christie was born in 1864 in Dunedin – the daughter of William Christie and Mary Ledingham.
Her parents ran the Caledonian Hotel in Dunedin until about 1869 when they moved to Keithmore Farm near Warepa in South Otago.
She married George Henry Jenkinson, a farmer, on 27 December 1889 at her home and they had six children.
When Jeannie signed the suffrage petition the family were living at 'Spring Park' farm near Port Molyneux.
A few years later George became a stock agent – the family lived in Oamaru, Waimate, Timaru and Masterton before retiring to Auckland where George died in 1922.
Jeannie died on 26 August 1938 at her home in Auckland, she is buried with George in the Waikaraka Cemetery.
