Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Jane/Jeannie Porter was born in 1868 in the Tokomairiro district – the daughter of John Porter and Mary Young. (See 80 Mary Porter)
When she signed the suffrage petition Jane was living with her family near Milton.
She married Dougald Crawford, an engineer, on 2 February 1898 at her parents’ home.
After a 'first-class wedding breakfast' a dance was held in the barn which 'continued with the utmost heartiness to chase the glowing hours with flying feet until well on in the morning.' Jane and Dougald had four children and, after a few years living in Milton, they moved to Auckland about 1913.
They later moved to Hamilton where Dougald died in February 1944.
Jane died later that year on 13 March, they are buried in the Hamilton East Cemetery.
