Jemima Williamson was born in Shetland, Scotland on 17 July 1865 – the daughter of James Williamson, an agricultural labourer, and Amelia Yell.
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1874 on the Nelson and the family settled in Dunedin.
Jemima married Magnus Johnson, a labourer, on 16 July 1885. They had three children and when Jemima signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Jones St, South Dunedin.
Jemima died at her home on 16 May 1936 and Magnus died in 1939, they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
