Jemima Murray was born in 1868 in New Zealand – the daughter of James Mitchell Murray and Margaret Todd.

She was living at the family home at Maungatua on the Taieri Plains near Dunedin when she signed the suffrage petition.

Jemima married William Paterson McDiarmid, a farmer, on 26 July 1893 at the Mission Hall, Woodside.

She died at the Dunedin Hospital on 21 October the same year. She is buried in the West Taieri Cemetery.
