Jemima Sophia McKenzie was born about 1857, she married James Strachan, a coach driver, in Tapanui on 13 March 1877.
They had six children, three who died in infancy.
James died in 1891, at the age of 42.
When Jemima signed the suffrage petition she was living in Tapanui, South Otago.
She died at her daughter’s home in Oamaru on 14 January 1940 and is buried with James in the Tapanui Cemetery.
