Jenet/Janet Wardrop was born about 1840 in Scotland.
She emigrated to Otago in 1860 on the Pladda and later that year, on 10 September, Janet married William Russell.
They had 10 children and when Janet signed the suffrage petition they were living in Enfield in North Otago.
William died at their home in 1920 and Janet died on 26 January 1922 – they are buried together in the Old Oamaru Cemetery.
