Janet/Jennet Cadzow was born about 1820 in Stirlingshire, Scotland.
She married John Meek, a coal miner, in 1848 in Stirlingshire and they had nine children, two who died in infancy.
In 1875 they emigrated to Otago on the Invercargill with their four youngest children.
When Janet signed the suffrage petition the family were living at Helensbrook near Milton.
John died in 1894 and Janet died at her home on 27 January 1902, they are buried in the Fairfax Cemetery, Milton.
