Jessie McKenzie was born about 1848 in Nairnshire, Scotland – the daughter of Colin McKenzie.
She married Donald Gordon, a carter, on 23 April 1872 at Tokomairiro and they had nine children, one who died in childhood.
The family lived in Milton where Jessie signed the suffrage petition.
Donald died in 1905 and Jessie died at her home on 31 July 1926, they are buried in the Fairfax Cemetery, Milton.
Her obituary said she was 'a well-known and respected resident of Milton, having lived continuously in the district for 55 years.'
