Jessie Harper McKenzie was born about 1823 in Orkney, Scotland.

She had a son with William Bain in 1856 in Haddingtonshire, and she married William Munro, a police constable, in 1858.

They lived in Edinburgh and had 3 children before William died in the 1870s.

Jessie emigrated to New Zealand with at least 2 of her children. When she signed the suffrage petition she was living in Palmerston in North Otago.

She died on November 20th 1902 at her son’s home in Timaru. She is buried in the Timaru Cemetery.
