Jessie Ann Massey was born in 1859 in Chester, Cheshire, England – the daughter of Charles Bowker Massey, a railway clerk, and Anna Maria Beeston Allen.
She married Alexander Henderson, a detective, on 24 November 1881 in Dunedin and they had eight children, three who died in infancy or childhood.
When Jessie signed the suffrage petition the family were living in High St, Dunedin.
After this they lived in Christchurch, Wellington, Gisborne and Auckland before retiring to Christchurch.
Alexander died in Auckland in 1909, he is buried in the Waikaraka Cemetery, Auckland.
Jessie died at New Brighton, Christchurch on 29 June 1933 – her burial place is unknown.
