When Jessie signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Allandale Rd, St Clair, Dunedin working as a dressmaker.

She married James Lyall, a storeman, in 1899 and they had one son.

By 1925 they were living in Glen Eden, Auckland.

James died in 1928 and Jessie died on 17 June 1952 – they are buried together in the Waikumete Cemetery.
