Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jessie Melville was born in 1869 in New Zealand — the daughter of Andrew Melville, a farmer, and Ellen Ramsay. (See 28 Ellen Melville)

Jessie’s family farmed at 'Riverside' near Port Molyneux in South Otago where she signed the suffrage petition.

She married Thomas Wright, a flaxmiller, in 1898 and they had four children, one who died in infancy.

Jessie died on 20 February 1906 and is buried in the Port Molyneux Cemetery.
