Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jessie/Janet was born about 1831, probably in Scotland.

She & her husband, Donald Ross – a carpenter, were in New Zealand in the early 1860s when their two sons were born.

In 1863 they were living in Spey St, Invercargill when their house was destroyed by fire – it was not insured.

They were still in Spey St when Jessie signed the suffrage petition.

Jessie died on 29 April 1898 and Donald died at their home in 1902, they are buried with their sons in the Invercargill Eastern Cemetery.
