Johanna Kerr was born at Outram on the Taieri Plains in 1870 – the daughter of John Kerr, a farmer, and Euphemia Sharp.
When she signed the suffrage petition Johanna was living with her family at Sandymount on the Otago Peninsula.
She married John McKay, a farmer, on 27 December 1899 – they had no children.
John died in 1921 in Dunedin and Johanna died on 22 August 1953, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
