Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.
Johanna Ehrenfried was born about 1825 in Germany.
She came to New Zealand accompanied by several siblings and she married Abraham Myers on 17 September 1862 - this was apparently the first Jewish marriage in Dunedin.
They had five children and Abraham worked as a pawnbroker and jeweller.
Abraham died in 1893 – he is buried in the Southern Cemetery.
The family were living in High Street at this time and this is where Johanna signed the suffrage petition.
Johanna appears to have died in Hawera on 5 June 1902 – she is buried in the Hawera Cemetery.
