Julia Mary Hutton was born in 1871 in New Zealand – the daughter of James Donaldson Hutton, a hotelkeeper and Catherine.
When Julia signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in South Dunedin.
She married John Loughlin, a horse trainer, on 12 July 1893 at St Joseph’s Cathedral, Dunedin and they had three sons.
The following year John was declared bankrupt then, in 1896, he took over the licence of the St Kilda Hotel from Julia’s sister Mary.
In 1897 he moved to the Union Hotel in Princes Street.
The family lived for a time in Invercargill in the early 1900s before spending a few years in New South Wales.
On their return they lived in Hamilton then moved to Taupo.
Julia died in Hamilton on 23 December 1938, she is buried in the Hamilton East Cemetery.
John died at Tarawera on 15 February 1942, he is buried in the Taupo Cemetery.
