Catherine/Katherine Sheedy was born about 1848 in County Cork, Ireland.
She emigrated to New Zealand where she married, merchant, Patrick Michael Griffin on 3 October 1867 at the Brian Boru Hotel in Greymouth.
They had seven children and when Catherine signed the suffrage petition they were living in Greymouth.
Patrick died in 1913 and a short time later Catherine moved to Christchurch. She died there on 19 February 1929 and is buried with Patrick in the Karoro Cemetery, Greymouth.
Her obituary said she was 'a well-known and widely respected resident of Greymouth', and 'greatly esteemed for her many good qualities by a wide circle of West Coast friends'.
