Jeanetta Kezia South was born in 1861 in Edmonton, Middlesex, London - the daughter of Joseph South, a brickmaker, and Emma Bright.
Her mother died in 1868 and the following year her 46-year-old father married 20-year-old Mary Ann Harden. (See 150 Mrs M A South)
The family emigrated to Otago in 1874 on the Buckinghamshire and settled in Dunedin.
Kezia married Thomas Clarkson on 24 December 1880 and they had four children.
Thomas died in 1886, at the age of 33, and when Kezia signed the suffrage petition she was living in Grosvenor St, Kensington working as a tailoress.
She died on 7 January 1935 and is buried with Thomas in the Green Island Cemetery, Dunedin.
