Karen Kristine Rasmussen was born on 8 January 1842 in Denmark.

She married Peder/Peter Jensen on 4 March 1865 in Raklev, Holbaek – they had three children before they emigrated to New Zealand in 1872 on the Palmerston.

The family settled in Dunedin where they had a further five children – when Karen signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Macandrew Rd, South Dunedin.

Karen and Peter celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1925 which was reported in the newspaper.

Karen died the following year on 10 January and Peter died in 1936, they are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
