Katherine Malcolm Dewar was born on 6 December 1840 in Blairgowrie, Perthshire, Scotland – the daughter of Peter Dewar, a coachman, and Elizabeth Robertson.

She emigrated to New Zealand and married James Kennedy Logan, a telegraph inspector in 1866.

They had 11 children, one who died in infancy and the family lived in Otago, settling in Dunedin in 1869 when James was appointed lines inspector for the Dunedin district.

When Katherine signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Cannongate, Dunedin.

James retired in 1909 and the family moved to Wellington, Katherine died there on 3 December 1911 and is buried in the Karori Cemetery.

James died in 1912 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa while visiting his daughter, he is buried there.
