Catherine/Kate Sullivan was born about 1830 in Ireland. She married Thomas Hayward Pledger, a painter, in New Zealand in 1868.
They had two sons and lived on the corner of York Place and Albert St (now Stuart St) in Dunedin. They ran a boarding house called Albert House, later known as Cambridge House, and they also ran a store.
Thomas died in 1917 and Catherine died on 22 December 1920. They are buried together in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
