Catherine/Kate Burnett Glen was born on 26 March 1861 in Glasgow, Scotland – the daughter of John Glen, an engineer, and Mary Burnett.
She married John Anderson Gardiner, a Presbyterian minister, on 18 June 1885 at Langside Free Church, Glasgow.
Before their marriage John had suffered an accident which left him blind – he continued to preach and was well known for his 'elocutionary powers'.
Kate and John had three daughters before they moved to New Zealand in the early 1890s and lived in Bluff where John had charge of the Bluff Parish.
Kate signed the suffrage petition in Bluff and their son was born there in 1894.
By 1896 the family had moved to Manly, NSW where John took over the Manly Parish.
John died in 1911, he is buried in the Manly Cemetery. Kate died on 18 March 1954, she was cremated.
