Kate Laing was born in 1855 in Victoria, Australia – the daughter of John Edward Laing and Annie.
She came to New Zealand with her family and she married William John Rundle in 1874.
William died in 1876 and Kate re-married in 1878 to Thomas Bunt Meager, an engine driver.
They had six children and when Kate signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Orepuki in Southland.
In the 1900s they 'took up land” and ran a farm after Thomas retired.
He died in 1919 and Kate died on 11 August 1928, they are buried together in the Orepuki Cemetery.
