Kate Hancock was born about 1853 in Cornwall, she married John George Pellowe in 1874 in Falmouth, Cornwall and the same year they emigrated to Otago on the Peter Denny.

They had eight children and lived in Caversham, Dunedin before moving to Brighton south of Dunedin where John worked as a rope spinner.

The family was back in Dunedin when Kate signed the suffrage petition in Castle Street.

Kate died on 18 September 1921 and John died in 1931, they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
