Catherine/Kate Wright Railton was born in 1872 in Whitehaven, Cumberland, England – the daughter of George Railton, a shipwright, and Sarah Johnston. (See 65 Mrs Sarah Railton)

She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1876 on the Invercargill and they settled in Dunedin.

When Kate signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Reid St, South Dunedin.

Kate married Horace Duke Foster, a machinist, in 1898 and they had one daughter.

Horace died in Christchurch in 1930 and Kate died on 4 December 1962, they are buried together in the Waimate Cemetery.
