Laura Hussey Churly/Churley was born in Victoria, Australia  in 1875 – the daughter of James Hussey Churley, a butcher, and Helen Sinclair. (See 99 N S Churly)

Laura emigrated to Westport in 1875 with her family on the Alma.

Her father was declared bankrupt in 1879 and, in 1880, the family moved to Dunedin.

When Laura signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family on the corner of Castle and Dundas Streets.

She married Alfred Sedman, a baker, in 1903 they had four children, one who died in infancy, and lived in Christchurch.

Laura died on 12 October 1929 and Alfred died in 1947, they are buried together in the Sydnenham Cemetery.
